1. The soundtrack in my head: 2 Gimmie Shelter – Sisters of Mercy

   Nobody seems to be returning my calls so I’m guessing the TV adaption has died on its arse which is a pain but one of the conversations I had with the TV people at one stage was about music and I’ve been thinking about the ideal soundtrack ever since.

   I’ll confess, I’m a big Sisters of Mercy fan, I love the immersive yet empty hypnotic quality of many of their songs and this cover of the Stones’ Gimmie Shelter really nails the sinister threatening vibe.

2. The soundtrack in my head: 1 Stone Dead Forever – Motörhead

   Nobody seems to be returning my calls so I’m guessing the TV adaption has died on its arse which is a pain but one of the conversations I had with the TV people at one stage was about music and I’ve been thinking about the ideal soundtrack ever since.

   First up would be a slowed down, almost mournful version of this Motörhead classic. In fact at the time I wrote Heavy Duty People given the progression of images and story in the song, I wanted to quote the lyrics to introduce each section of the book - but I couldn’t work out how to go about getting permission so I gave the idea a miss.

   To me though it would have to be the show’s opening theme song.
